Dedicated IP Support at JTAN

There are two kinds of dedicated IP addresses that we offer: dedicated web site IP addresses, and dedicated vHosts for IRC.

Dedicated Web Site IP Address

JTAN provides each ProWeb hosting account with up to three of its own unique IP addresses. This allows customers to access their accounts by FTP and via the Web during domain name propagation periods or at other times when the domain name may be inaccessible. Each customer's account IP address is "dedicated" to the single account, meaning it is not being shared by any other accounts on the same server. The reverse DNS of each IP is easily settable from the JTAN Members page.

There are many benefits of dedicated IP hosting. Dedicated IP allows for your own anonymous FTP area, and it allows you to serve an SSL web site with your certificate. Another benefit is the ability to "stack" multiple sites on the same address without worrying about interfering with any other sites.

Although these days most browsers are compatible with shared IP hosting, dedicated IP accounts are compatible with all browser types. Customers who have Dedicated IP Internet Web Hosting accounts also enjoy the option of creating a site without a domain name (some types of businesses or parties designing private intranet websites prefer IP-only access structures).

Custom vHost: Dedicated IP Address for IRC

Both our Instabots and Instabouncers come with custom vHosts. These are essentially dedicated IP addresses for IRC. There is no extra charge for these addresses and they are issued to both proShell and proWeb accounts. They do not count against the three web site IP addresses allocated to proWeb.

Custom vHosts are fully configurable with your own "vanity" vhost name. Of course, the domain in which the vHost resides must be under your control, or a shared JTAN domain available for vHosts, but otherwise you can make your vHost any.thing.you.want.it.to.be.at.yourdomain.com .
